Thinking Ahead To Plan Your Best Winter Ever

Dreaming of your best winter ever?

It’s never too soon to start doing this!

Thinking ahead to winter…

Even if it’s still fall (my favorite time of the year) — a drop in temperature and the first signs of snow might always feel like a shock to my system.  

The weather change forces us to rethink our coping strategies for the frigid air and lack of daylight. Taking a few minutes to plan ahead will give you the best opportunity to thrive this winter.

Think about it… what do you want winter to FEEL like? Warm and cozy?  

What will it look like? 

Will you fill your time with outdoor activities? 

Will you return to hearty meals and ginger snap cookies? 

Do you want to enjoy time with friends and family? 

Will you savour lots of sleep and stillness?

Starting in the fall, or even if you’re reading this and the snow is already falling, I invite you to start feeling into your best winter ever — yes, it’s totally possible! 

How will you make the “best winter ever” happen? Can you prioritize fun and connection? We can’t possibly add more to our plates, so can you say “no” to overtime and commitments that leave you feeling resentment?  

Start plotting winter activities on your calendar as early as possible. 

The holidays will sneak up on us, so put tentative dates in the calendar now. 

When are your family and work gatherings? 

Will you need to bring gifts or a dessert? 

How about changing over your closet from summer or fall to winter clothes? 

Do you and your kids have boots and coats that fit? 

Do the mittens match? 

Create a winter bucket list.

What are the things you have always wanted to do each winter?

The things that you missed in previous years that you want to get ahead of now? Brainstorm with your family now — it will be more likely to happen because it will be on your radar.

Planning ahead will decrease your stress and leave you with more capacity to handle the things that will creep up that you can’t predict. Thinking about what’s to come will also save you money because we tend to go out and buy things last minute and for more dollars than we could have if we had made it at home (dessert or appetizers) or had the time to wait for a sale or good deal.
